Episode 34: Definitely Not Episode 33

In this episode we talk about the supreme court’s decision on partial-birth abortions, the backlash of the culture of death with all of that, we talk about a new Vatican-okay’d TV organization, and we take a look at some listener mail.

One example of where a legal item has an illegal procedure is with hunting and fishing laws. Such as not hunting from a vehicle or hunting with a hunting dog (for deer).

Wow, I don’t know if I wanted to cry or drop kick someone (with charity) when I checked out the planned parenthood site. The amount of misinformed ignorance I saw was disgusting. What scares me the most is the target age for the site. My sister is about to be a teenager. It really ups the game guys. We really need to spread the w word about JPII’s Theology of the Body. Only with the renewal of the family and human sexuality will things get better. Thanks for being awesome, relevant beacons of truth in a world that lacks the true meaning of love.

Hey guys! On the note of pro-Catholic web outreach to teens I think LifeTeen does a pretty good job. I have mixed feelings about LifeTeen regarding a few things but overall I think they manage to “market” the Truth quite well. Their website manages to be engaging and effluent, covering a wide variety of topics.

It’s sad that there aren’t more attractive and easy resources for things like Theology of the Body, etc to get the Truth out there but I’ll quote a favorite Derek Webb song that says, “The Truth is never sexy, so she’s not an easy sell, you can dress her like the culture, but she’ll shock ‘em just as well.”

I really liked what was talked about the reform of the reforming. I think that it is something that is happening across all different types of Christian Churches, not just the Catholic church and the impact that Vatican II is starting to have. I am curious, being that all of you are younger guys, do you have any statistics of new Catholics? I am not Catholic, but over the last few years have gained a tremendous amount of respect for the RCC. In the circles I run in, there are a great many protestant people who are in agreement over just about everything the RCC is a part of, but feels they are in God’s will inside various protestant churches trying to “pump the bathwater back in”. But I also have alot of friends that are going to the Catholic church for the first time in their mid-20′s. You have a great podcast, thanks for all the work that you put into it.

I work for a non-profit in Seattle, recently a woman from Planned Parenthood came and talked to our group. After mentioning that she goes into schools to give talks and provide information, she elaborated on how there are certain issues that they are not allowed to bring up to youth, (concerning issues of birth control, abortion, etc.) but, they may answer any questions that the youth ask. This women then offered up the fact during these question and answer sessions they generally fix the questions as a way to add in the other “relevant” information. She followed this stating, “You know I can really understand why the people who hate us (big old laugh).”

I was so dumbfounded at this that I just sat there motionless, I couldn’t even manage a word. How do you pose a well constructed question that isn’t totally reactionary to pure deception? In my mind I had a total “Angry Jesus” moment, unfortunately the conference table doesn’t lent itself to flipping.

    Hi guys,
I’m the host of the Catholic Rockers podcast and a few others. I just discovered your podcast and I really enjoyed it. Keep up the great work.

As you said, trying to outreach in cyberspace can be difficult because anyone can put up a website pretending to be an expert about something they have no clue about. I think you’re a right on that we need to match what they are doing. My site CatholicJukebox.com, I keep trying to update it to keep it from looking like a site from 1991. We need to reach people where they are at. And with this podcast, you are reaching many, I am sure.

    God bless,. – G

Several years ago, while in college, I went to an event where a Planned Parenthood representative was going to speak. She talked about their efforts to go into the Hispanic Communities to get their message out. The rep spoke for almost an hour on the topic. When the Q&A portion started, I asked about their history and about their founder, Margaret Sanger. The rep couldn’t deny their past (although some chapters of Planned Parenthood now do), but still kept a straight face when she said Planned Parent was no longer racist in any way, and then spoke again about trying to spread the pro-abortion message in the Hispanic community.

I’m sure they are no longer racist, I think they will kill babies regardless of race.

Okay, this is really disgusting! I had never checked out the TeenWire site (never even heard of it) until today. I own a marketing company, and would love to contribute services to counteracting Planned Parenthood. Where can I start? What can I do???

Okay, me again! Do we, as Catholics, have a resource where teens can go and get information? Also, Planned Parenthood goes into schools and speaks to our children, right? What do we have to counter their information? Nothing?

    @Stephanie:

I don’t know of anything off the cuff that would offer a “teenWire” like service but from an intensely Catholic perspective. Whatever this new website would be, the information would have to be accurate; the presentation would have to be engaging for a young audience; it WOULD HAVE TO NOT BE CHEESY! (We Catholics seem to default to “cheesy” when we’re trying to get a point across to young people, with our talk, our design, etc. It’s exasperating! End rant.); and the technology used should be on par with or better than teenwire. Also, whatever it’s called, it should perhaps be as unassuming and “everyday” as “teenwire”.

First things first, you’ll probably want to start putting together a group of people who would be willing to start brainstorming about this, you’ll certainly want to start praying yourself about whether God is calling you to do this — as a podcast I know states sometimes, “if God doesn’t want me to do it, I shouldn’t do it”. If you’ve got God’s okay, and things start coming together with a group of brainstorming people, you can go from there.

As far as a resource where teens can go, I’m not aware of anything. Doesn’t mean it’s not there, I just don’t know about it. Could be a good segment for the podcast!

Thanks Stephanie, I’ll begin praying for your guidance if this is something you feel strongly about!
