Episode 48 Shownotes

Fr. Decker sat on a wall, Fr. Decker went to the Apple store and had a great fall — he bought an iPhone.

CatholiCon 2008

We’ve received lots of excellent feedback from many of our listeners. We’re currently collaborating with other podcasters such as Greg and Jennifer Willits of Rosary Army and Fr. Roderick Vonhogen of the Catholic Insider.

If you’d like to provide us with your ideas and suggestions for CatholicCon, check out Sean McGaughey’s Facebook group Catholic New Media Conference.

Elizabeth Lev (via Zenit) tell us the Five Worst Looks for Christians:

Cardinal Socks
Virgin Mary Belt Buckles
The Rosary Necklace
Crucifixes (or should that be Crucifixi), chaplets, and scapulars as accessories.
Satanic Imagery

Much ado about Skype — Skype was down for 36 hours. What happens if we can’t use Skype? Here are the alternatives:

the gizmo project
GoogleTalk
ISDN
Plain Old Telephone Service – it’s what us geeks call POTS lines.

It was our one year anniversary on the 20th of August and besides still being friends, we actually have more listeners than we started. We’re thanking all of you for your support by giving one lucky listener a $15 iTunes gift card. Send in your backchat to backchat@catholicunderground.com (only once please) and you’ll be entered to win. We’ll draw the lucky winner from Fr. Chris biretta (again not the TV show, the car, or the firearm.) The Winner will be announced on September 3.

This week’s music

Celtic Stone – Rocky Road to Brenham
Ric Seaberg – Jesus didn’t have a car

Could It Be? After All this Time?

According to Variety, the Hollywood News Rag, Jonny Quest could be coming to a big screen near you!  While I may not have been around in the golden days when JQ first aired, I’ve been a fan for quite a long time.  In fact, I’m hoping this means they’ll release the second season on DVD!

Here’s the story.

Quest on!

Review: The Bourne Ultimatum

The Bourne Ultimatum Receives the prestigious 4/5 tab-collar rating for an excellent end (or is it?!) to the Jason Bourne trilogy.

I dipped out under cover of civilian clothing following the evening mass to see the final installment, and I was quite impressed with the tie ins to the previous films, the quality of acting, and the writing (which was superb!). The fifth tab-collar rating was denied though because of one thing: Shake-O-Vision™!

While it was neat to see the camera moving as if I was a person shadowing Agent Bourne (as if I could do so undetected!), it was quite dizzying as I “ran” along with Damon’s character or, worse yet, was being knocked unconscious in one of the fight sequences. Unfortunately, the human (at least my human eye) couldn’t keep up with the action; had I not resisted the urge to consume more Resse’s Pieces™, the irresistible combination of peanut butter and chocolate may have found its way upon the upholstery by way of esophageal spasm .

I suppose that this is an example of technology being capable of something that the human body can’t really appreciate, and as such, it fails in its task to be an aid to our leisure. Translation: just ‘cause you can, doesn’t mean you should.

All in all, a great film, circumnavigating the globe once every fifteen minutes, plenty of cat-and-mouse, and a neat (if predictable) twist at the end makes for an eye-rattling good time. Just don’t overdo the Sno-Caps™ and you should be fine.
