Episode 56: Envoyage!

A special episode with Caroline Schermerhorn, contributing editor of Envoy Magazine, now back in print and awaiting its second issue. She interviews us for a piece she’s doing in the re-newed magazine, and we let you listen in! Also, we offer our picks of the week!

Great meta-show, it was nice to hear more of the background behind the show. Plus it was nice to hear Caroline Schermerhorn and I always enjoyed her Friends from the Field column in Envoy. I always loved Envoy and it is great to see it back, plus I even get to contribute a little of the humor.

The ending song was great. I always loved that Jethro Tull song, so it was interesting to hear it redone.

I totally concur with Joshua’s pick. The Shepherd Voice series is excellent and I love the clarity of the teaching in the first two editions and Cardinal Arinze’s prayers in the third. In a strange bit of synchronicity I talked to someone at Basilica Press shortly after Joshua did and my review of the books occured about the same time.

The PC/Mac discussion was pretty funny. I agree with Joshua about the building and maintaining your own part. I love playing with hardware and building your own system. I think it is too bad that Apple coming from hobbyist roots became so limiting in what you could upgrade on your own. Though I must admit my experience with my iMac has been great and I am doing a lot of work on it. But I am also having fun making my desktop PC and my iMac work together (without virtual machines) so I do get to exercise my inner geek in doing so. Being a Catholic I like the both/and attitude and so for me it is PC/Mac/Linux.

    Great Episode.
I just have to say I am in the “I void warranties” category with Joshua

I am sure that buying a bright new shiny mac is an experience(never done it though), But I would have to say building your own computer takes the cake. I built my first one freshman year in college mostly for financial reasons because total cost was well under 1000 dollars.

I also have to throw out there I am catholic xubuntu linux user and love it.

I am sure I am opening a can of worms but worm meat probably has lots of protein. :-)

    Hey Fr. Chris,
I don’t know if you remember, but when I was accepted into seminary I started a website and I stumbled upon cybercatholics.com in researching for my website. Quite intrested in finding one of the few catholic sites on the internet I e-mailed “some Seminarian named Chris”, who just happened to be the guy who welcomed my family and me as I showed up to move in. Seems so long ago and it is amazing to see how far catholic media has gone since then. Oh, and Fr. Ryan, I too was an apple-hating PC user until Daniel showed me the ways of apple (sorry Josh). However, I do admit I run windows virtually from time to time.
