CU Episode 65: You Don’t Say

In this episode, we talk about a new Catholic Pro-Life Film Festival, our picks of the week, we introduce a new segment called the cu subway, answer some backChat, news about CatholiCon, our long lost live show, and the usual cutting up.

Isn’t it in the license agreement for Macs and iPods that the information needed to appreciate and work Macs and iPods is stored in the same part of the brain that love for American Football would normally reside?

    Fathers, and gentlemen–
Thanks for the props and calling the blog “highbrow Catholic humor”! That, I believe, is a first. Probably a last too. So I’ll savor it and tell my husband.

And if you think it’s cold in Louisiana, it’s -10 here in southern MN.

    Brothers,
I am just cathching up on the ipod experience and your podcasts.
I listened today to the this event, in the process y’all spoke about the directives in the sacramentary with regards the presider facing the people. This, to my knowledge, was not done, as it may have been suggested, to indicate that there were times the presider was not facing the people.

They were clear directives because many of our bishops and especially our priests were not at all ready or prepared adequately to celebrate the Mass in the renewal of Vat. II.
Thus, the directives, to face the people, was used to clear up any misunderstanding about which way to face.

I know because I watched our priests stumble through the changes, I served their Masses and I heard many a complaint about it. Ironically enough, the complaints came from the young priests (there were 7 in our rectory). Our pastor, Msgr. Boyle, when the full changes were implemented enjoyed the celebration of the Mass and he never lost his love for the Tridentine form of the Mass!

Would that those who belong to our priestly fraternity would see each other as brothers instead of standing across the great divide.

    Father Jim,

    Thanks for Listening!

I've been researching the issue and I'd love some more info on the directives that you're speaking of. I don't have access to local directives given by bishops of dioceses. I know the first Rome spoke of it was 1969 and that wasn't "Rites" but if you have any copies or hard data, I'd love to get in touch with you.

    Thanks for writing in!
    Fr. Ryan

PS>>> For the world, I've come across an excellent book on this subject, Bro. Michael Lang's "Turning Towards the Lord " covers this matter in absurd detail – check it out!
