CU Special #5: For the Parousians About to Rock, We Salute You.

Frs. Chris and Ryan, along with Josh traipsed to an undisclosed appartment on the campus of Louisiana State University to meet with the college group who calls itself “Parousians.” They’ve come quite a long way since episode 21! Give a listen!

Be warned, it’s a special extended edition of cu!

    Go see Expelled while it is still in the theaters. It deals with being open to the pursuit of truth in the academic community. Ben Stein is my new hero & he can be yours as well.

    This is an awesome podcast! So many great insights to Pope’s messages and our faith…

    You talked about the question “how do I make someone Catholic?” You had a great answer. I thought about the monthly message from Jesus that came out today from Anne, a lay apostle. Here is an excerpt:

    “Many of God?s children, living in the sadness of sin, will not admit that God could offer them anything of value. They are closed to My love for them and they are closed to My plan for them. But these people will, nevertheless, accept kindness from you, God?s apostles. They will accept good example from you, God?s apostles. Ultimately, if My plan is successful, they will accept love from you. The love they find in your heart will belong to Me because I placed it there. When the people around you are loved by you, they experience Me.”

    If you are unfamiliar, you can get information about Anne and the messages Jesus gives her at http://www.directionforourtimes.org.

    Thank you so much for your great podcasts (impressions and all)!

    Did you guys drink caffeine before this podcast? Holy wow.

    Fr. Chris… patience is both a fruit of the HS and a virtue. They aren’t mutually exclusive – much as love is a theological virtue while simultaneously a fruit of the HS. :)

  • http://www.catholicunderground.com Father Chris

    well said, Carson! I stand corrected!

  • http://fatherryan.tumblr.com Fr. Ryan

    Hey there Carson, I’m gonna have to go ahead and disagree, yeah… Patience is a disposition, meaning that it is a shaping of our natural responses to a stimulus. I don’t really think that we can shape that directly – as is the case with a virtue. I really have to stand beside the idea that patience is a fruit of the spirit and not a virtue…

    Discussion welcome.

    erm, Cars may be on to something…it seems to be both/and.

    Quoting the Angelic Doctor:

    Wherefore patience as a habit is a virtue. but as to the pleasure which its act affords, it is reckoned a fruit, especially in this, that patience safeguards the mind from being overcome by sorrow.

  • http://www.cybercatholics.com Josh

    Yeah, I’m going with Fr. Chris and the Angelic Doctor on this one – patience is both a virtue and a fruit of the spirit.

    It looks like it may be good to study St. Thomas Aquinas. Maybe a podcast dedicated just to him would be in good order. Without the wisdom of the Doctor Angelicus, we are in bad shape!!

    @Carson:

    we actually did have caffeine…but with goat’s milk. A long, distasteful, story.
    Hope the excitement didn’t wake the littlest Webblet! Congrats!

    @Joseph:
    Word.

    @Brian:
    thanks man. Tried and true: to get Catholics, we gotta be Catholics.

    I stand corrected. I have to submit the Angelic Doctor. Although, I’m now interested in the specifics of how you would practice patience as a virtue – maybe patience as a choice of action (freaking out or not freaking out) and not so much as a natural reaction (my inner monologue). All the same, kudos to Carson who had the angelic insight.

    Technical question instead of theological – Is there a direct link to the MP3 of this ‘cast?

    Oops. Sorry. Thought the little button at the top was just decoration. Forget I said anything.

    Preach. It. Brothers. What was a pretty entertaining podcast about faith & new media has suddenly turned into a spiritual powerhouse. I’m a blue collar laborer breaking my back everyday so my wife can homeschool our four kids. Your summation of the Holy Father’s visit and writings was a HUGE boost in the arm. I’ll be listening to that episode again. More please.

    Fr. Ryan – Just follow the life of a married man for a couple of days, or much better, his wife! :)

    ah, marriage!
