You guys mentioned a social website: fourmarks.com. What’s your take on this website? I tried to sign into this one, but could not get past the security check. also, they don’t have adequate help.

I’m re-listening to episode 79. I agree with Fr Ryan’s pick: the Father Brown mystery series. Great stuff.

I understand your rant, Fr. Ryan. I went to grad school in Austin and lived there for quite a while. By the time I’d been there a couple years, I was so over “cool” or hip or green or pc or whatever. My sister spent a summer with me and by the end we were joking about buying polyester pantsuits and chowing on Big Macs (those were the birkenstok and white kids with dredlocks days). Of course now, the kids at the Art Institute DO wear polyester!

You’re right though about the green movement being a marketing ploy and/or religion. It’s another way to encourage consumerism without guilt. Far easier to buy “green” than to say, work in a shelter or soup kitchen or spend some time in prayer.

Thanks guys, I really enjoy the show and am working my way through the archives.

    Thanks Ruthanne!

The so called “super bishops” would be an equivalent to a bishop of a personal prelature in the Catholic Church, who looks after the spiritual care of individual persons regardless of the locality. You can also compare it to the Archbishop of the Military Services, whose jurisdiction goes beyond one geographical area and extends where ever there are the military forces.

The “super bishop” reminds of me of an article on that was on the Onion entitled “Super Priest Can Consecrate Bucket of KFC into Body of Christ”

Fr. Ryan, I used extra non-recycleable plasticware in lab today just for you.

Thanks Suzanne – let’s keep this kind of salvation-friendly living going full speed ahead! (Shall we call it being white instead of green)

    Fr. Ryan:

A comment on your “rant” about the new “eco-religion”, I was reminded of a point that Dr. Scott Hahn had made on one of his tape series:

He said that a lot of these band wagons that popular culture puts themselves on may be a case of misplaced guilt over things that the culture should feel guilty of: e.g. instead of doing something about things like abortion or euthanasia, they redirect their attention to something that’s not as controversial, like the environment, or saving the baby whales . . .

    Just a thought.
