Mother Angelica of EWTN always used to say “put us between your gas and electric bill” when encouraging her viewers to consider a regular donation to what would become the largest Catholic television network.
At The Catholic Underground we’re supported by our listeners in a new era of The New Evangelization and so we ask you to put us between your Internet Service Provider bill and your sizeable gaming allowance!
Join the cu crew for a Thanksgiving special wherein we talk about the things for which we’re most thankful this year. Joe McClane from the Catholic Hack podcast joins in to reminisce as well as do our many chat room participants. We also have a special Thanksgiving-time pick of the week! Join us and give thanks!
Note: Audio buzz at 27:02 for a brief period. Must have been Fr. Ryan cooking ontop of his iMac again.
Just a simple note of thanks to all those who support The Gospel, Holy Mother Church, Our Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Seminarians, Religious Brothers and Sisters, as well as all those who listen, contribute, and financially help us at catholicunderground.com. This has been a great year thus far, and we’re looking forward to many more with you! Let us continue to keep each other in prayer!
Not often do I choose a pick of the week that is not Apple or iPhone related, but this week music made my list. There were tons of new music released recently but one that caught my eye and ear is the new Shane & Shane album.
Their new CD, Everything is Different, was released on November 3 and it has been played over and over on my iPod. This CD just has some amazing sounds that seem to release happiness in my head. One thing that Shane & Shane are fantastic for are their build ups. They never fail to deliver. The amazing guitar and vocals builds and builds and brings you to this almost symphonic serenity!
Not only is their music have this big sound put their is something very simple about it. It leads you down a simple road of worship. Their song “Turn the Music Down” really makes you want to put the iPod down and just pray. It doesn’t try to hide that nothing we can say or sing can compare to the voice of God.
The CD is fantastic. It has been a while since they have come out with a CD and this doesn’t disappoint! You can pick it up on Amazon or iTunes.
November finds us Catholics keeping death before us. We talk about the Communion of Saints, our hope to become permanent members of that group, and Walmart’s twist on funerary preparation. We cover the Church’s reason for prayer for the dead, the news of the week, and some BackChat about visiting New Orleans during Hallow’s Eve.
This week the US Bishop voted and approved the entirety of the new translation of the Roman Missal which could be seen as a symbolic moment in which the idea of a “Post-Vatican II” Church – strongly condemned as an idea by Pope Benedict XVI – may finally be dying.
Following last week’s show covering the upcoming Apostolic Constitution to allow for Anglicans to enter the Catholic Church, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Joseph Levada, issued a statement through the Holy See Press Office clarifying that the reason for the delay of the constitution itself has nothing to do with the rumored question of celibacy requirements for Anglican seminarians. (C.f. Sacerdotalis coelibatus, no 42.)
A Washington, D.C. City Council proposal (Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act of 2009) to recognize same-sex “marriage” would redefine marriage and could force Catholic educational and charitable institutions to close or face lawsuits.
